Fire erupts in Glendale; man jumps out window

GLENDALE, Calif.

The fire erupted in the 200 block of North Brand Boulevard at about 12:15 a.m. Firefighters say when they arrived, flames were about 30 feet high.

A man jumped from a second-story window, fell on the awning and then went down to the sidewalk. He had a broken ankle, but officials say he will be OK.

It took crews about two hours to get the fire under control. The blaze was knocked down at 2:21 a.m.

At 7:15 p.m., more flames were reported at the location, resulting in a second-alarm fire response.

Firefighters say it was unusual that the fire grew so quickly, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Two firefighters were injured with minor burns, one to the wrist and one to the neck. They were treated at a local hospital and released.
