Kevin Costner and Diane Lane star in the upcoming highly-anticipated superhero movie, "Man of Steel" -- and they're dishing on the details.

In the film, which is set for release on June 14, Henry Cavill portrays what Costner calls the "modern" Superman. The movie follows a young journalist, Clark Kent, who is forced to confront his secret extraterrestrial heritage when Earth is invaded by members of his race -- namely, General Zod, played by Michael Shannon.

Costner and Lane play Jonathan and Martha Kent, the adoptive parents of the young hero. The veteran actors recently talked to George Pennacchio of KABC Television, OTRC.com's parent company, about their admiration for the film's director -- Zack Snyder -- and their increased role as Superman's parents in the movie.

Check out the five highlights from our interview with Costner and Lane below.

1. This isn't your "daddy's" Superman movie.

The legendary comic tale has been recreated numerous times throughout the years. Christopher Reeve played Superman in a 1978 film and three sequels, while Brandon Routh played the superhero in a 2006 movie. A TV teen drama series, "Smallville," starred Tom Welling and aired between 2001 and 2011.

While the film has been duplicated a number of times, Costner explained to OTRC.com that he was never too fond of the older depictions of the classic hero.

"Well, I didn't really like our Superman -- I didn't find him somebody believable, you know what I mean?" Costner explained of the older Superman franchises that he watched when he was young.

2. Costner credits Snyder with taking this film in the right direction.

"There's a lot of people that know how to work with the toys that are out there now, but they don't also necessarily have a vision," Costner explained to OTRC.com. "Zack has a vision. You know, a true vision, he's a true artist. And so all these little extra things that are happening now in the world -- they help his world. ... He knows what to do with his stuff."

Snyder is known for directing numerous Hollywood blockbusters, including "300," "Dawn of the Dead" and "Watchmen."

3. Lane's favorite line in the film? "Nice suit."

"There was never a moment [in the film] where anybody's saying, 'Where'd you get the outfit?'" Lane explained. "I mean, that's a choice, you know? 'Did you have any say in the matter? How are you feeling in that?' You know? So mom [Martha Kent] has this great line: 'Nice suit, son.' How great is that?"

4. This film helps explain how Superman became the man that he is -- emotions and all.

"How did Superman come to be the way he is when those tough decision have to be made, about using one's power -- which in case is ... other worldly," Lane explained of the film. "What's worth fighting for? What do you stand up for? What is your value system? And we want to know that -- I don't think that was ever really touched on before, necessarily, to the degree that this one is."

"I don't think Superman ever had it so good in that treatment of, what makes him tick, and who is he, and is there an Achilles' heel not only physically -- but emotionally, or even spiritually -- what is that for him?" she said.

5. Costner thinks Superman's mother was his biggest influence -- Lane feels otherwise.

"Well I think, really, that his mother was the influence on him, and I'm basically the character that said, 'knock it off,'" Costner said of his role as Superman's father.

"He's got the great scenes with the explaining the morality of 'what to live up to when you're a man, son,'" Lane said of Costner's role. "Those are great scenes."
