A new trailer for the anticipated second "Hobbit" movie, Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," have been released and offer a first look at the dragon as well as of "LOST" actress Evangeline Lily in costume as the elf warrior Tauriel.
The red-headed character does not appear in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," the book that inspired the trilogy. In the trailer, Lilly, who is from Canada, showcases a British accent -- and her fighting skills -- and appears with Orlando Bloom, who reprises his role as the platinum-haired elf Legolas from "The Lord of The Rings," the three-part sequel to "The Hobbit" that was released between 2001 and 2003 and made $2.9 billion worldwide.

"She's a Sylvan Elf, which means she's of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in 'The Lord of the Rings,'" Lilly told EW.com recently, regarding Tauriel. "She doesn't hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do -- she's much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit."
"She will definitely have a love story," Lilly added. "I can't give away too much about it. It's not a huge focus but it is there and it is important and it does drive Tauriel and her story and her actions."
Lilly is best known for her past role as Kate Austen in the ABC series "LOST," which aired between 2004 and 2010. A year later, she appeared in the movie "Real Steel" with Hugh Jackman.
Sherlock, you look different..
Martin Freeman reprises his role as Bilbo Baggins, which he first played in the 2012 film "The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey." The Hobbit finds himself, reluctantly, on a journey through Middle-earth to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug the dragon, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch.
Both actors star on the hit BBC series "Sherlock." Cumberbatch, known for his rich voice, plays the egotistical and brilliant Sherlock Holmes on the hit BBC series "Sherlock." Freeman portrays his exasperated and loyal roommate and assistant, Dr. John Watson. Cumberbatch also recently appeared as the villain in the new "Star Trek" film (check out his interview with OTRC.com - he reveals he auditioned via iPhone!).
"The Hobbit: THe Desolation of Smaug" is set for release on Dec. 13 (watch the trailer below). The third film in the series, "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2014.
