Simi Valley teacher arrested for alleged sex with student

SIMI VALLEY, Calif.

Garden Grove Elementary School teacher Malia Brooks, 32, has been arrested and her bail was set at $2 million. The arrest comes three months after allegations first surfaced at the school.

Simi Valley police announced they arrested a teacher for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student, but they would not confirm that it is Brooks connected to that specific case.

Eyewitness News has confirmed that Brooks has been on paid administrative leave since March and was being investigated for an inappropriate relationship with a student.

We knocked on her door of Brooks' Simi Valley house, but a man who came to the door did not want to make a comment. The school district also did not return our phone calls for a comment. But parents told Eyewitness News they received an email from the school principal on Tuesday confirming the arrest of a staff member.

Parents are disturbed by the allegations.

"We've lived here for over 40 years and all my three boys went to school here at Garden Grove," said Simi Valley resident Sal Menchaca. "It's sad because these are all young kids."

Brooks is scheduled to make her first court appearance at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Ventura. Simi Valley police plan to release more information on their case at a news conference on Wednesday.
