Residents and community leaders are calling for peace and healing in the wake of recent violence. Organizers were walking a route memorializing the victims of the shooting rampage that ended at Santa Monica College.
The peace walk is sponsored by the Pico Youth and Family Center and Saint Anne's Church and began at the focal point of the tragedy.
The suspected gunman, John Zawahri, 23, set his father's house on Yorkshire Avenue on fire killing his father Samir and his brother Chris. The suspect then proceeded to the college campus where he fatally shot Carlos Navarro Franco, 68, his daughter Marcela Franco, 26, and Margarita Gomez, 68, of Santa Monica, who was collecting cans and bottles for members of her church.
The event began at 6 p.m. and was open to the public.
