Newhall Pass wild fire under control, triggers 14 Freeway closure

SANTA CLARITA, Calif.

The fire was reported near Interstate 5 between the Calgrove exit and the 14 State Route junction.

The blaze, dubbed the Coltrane Fire, charred 13 acres before firefighters were able to bring it under control with ground crews and aerial water drops.

Multiple southbound lanes of the 14 were shut down between McBean Parkway and Lyons Avenue/Pico Canyon Road.

California Highway Patrol officials re-opened the four-lane section of Interstate 5 between the Calgrove exit and the State Route 14 junction around 6:30 p.m.
