OTRC: Alec Baldwin rants on Twitter, threatens reporter

Alec Baldwin and wife Hilaria Thomas pose on the red carpet at the 2013 SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 27, 2013.

Alec Baldwin has once again shut down his Twitter account following a rant against a journalist that included profanities and threats.

The trouble started when a journalist for the UK's Daily Mail named George Stark claimed Baldwin's wife, Hilaria Baldwin, was Tweeting about her upcoming wedding anniversary and other topics while the couple was attending the funeral of the late actor James Gandolfini.

Hilaria denied the claims and defended herself on Twitter writing, "FYI I don't believe in bringing phones into a funeral and I never did and I never would."

However, Baldwin had something to say about the situation, which quickly turned into a series of angry tweets against the publication and Stark. The incident ended with Baldwin deactivating his Twitter account.

"My wife and I attend a funeral to pay our respects to an old friend, and some toxic Brit writes this [expletive] trash," the 55-year-old actor tweeted on Thursday, June 27, according to ABC News.

Baldwin also addressed Stark directly and wrote, "I'm gonna find you, George Stark ... and I'm gonna [expletive] ... you ... up."

A spokesperson for Alec and Hilaria said in a statement to ABC News, "It is disgraceful that this reporter manufactured a story and never called for comment or explanation -- especially when it needlessly diverted attention away from a day to honor the memory of a beloved figure like Mr. Gandolfini."

Hilaria later defended her husband on Twitter and wrote, "My husband fights for me fiercely. It hurts to be misunderstood and it hurts to see your loved one in pain-even more so when she is pregnant."

"I hope that this reporter knows how much pain and drama he has caused from his poor journalism. Lying and bullying are shameful," she added.

She also wrote, "Today was supposed to be about remembering a friend, loving each other, treasuring life, & moving fwd w more appreciation for our fragility."

This is not the first time Alec has deactivated his Twitter account following a rant. In December 2011, Baldwin was removed from an American Airlines flight departing from Los Angeles to New York City for refusing to turn off his cell phone. The actor claimed in a Tweet from his official Twitter account that he was "reamed" by a flight attendant for playing the Scrabble-like mobile game "Words With Friends." Days later, he temporarily deactivated his Twitter account.

Alec also ranted on the social networking site after he got into an argument with a photographer in June 2012.

The actor and his wife are currently expecting their first child together. Baldwin has a 17-year-old daughter from his previous marriage to actress Kim Basinger. Hilaria revealed in March that she is pregnant with a baby girl.

UPDATE - June 27, 4:30 p.m. PT: In a statement to GLAAD, Alec apologized for using anti-gay slurs during his rant against Stark. His full statement can be read below.

"My ill-advised attack on George Stark of the Daily Mail had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone's sexual orientation. My anger was directed at Mr. Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend's funeral service. As someone who fights against homophobia, I apologize.

I have worked, periodically, with numerous marriage equality organizations, especially over the past couple of years, to achieve the very rights that gay couples are earning by recent court decisions. I would not advocate violence against someone for being gay and I hope that my friends at GLAAD and the gay community understand that my attack on Mr. Stark in no way was the result of homophobia.

    Many Thanks, Alec Baldwin."
