It was a cool 81 degrees for the walkers raising money for the American Cancer Society Saturday night.
The 6th Annual Relay for Life in Bellflower which raised $41,000 just happened to fall during a heat wave. It was 95 degrees for part of the 24-hour-long event but that didn't slow down 77-year-old Jerry Miller.
"I'm conditioned for that kind of thing, I dealth with it, I went with the heat, no problem," said Miller.
In Valencia, Delano Howell of the Indianapolis Colts, held a football camp for kids. The temperature reached 110 degrees. The players took water breaks every 10 to 15 minutes. He stressed the importance of staying hydrated.
Triple digit heat had the Antelope Valley baking all day.
Some families found relief in the cool water of a creek in Palmdale.
The San Fernando Valley also experienced temperatures in the low 100's.
Lake Balboa was a hot spot for people looking to get out of the house and enjoy the shade and the sunshine.
Early morning beachgoers saw heavy fog along the coast in Orange and San Diego counties. A dense fog advisory was issued then lifted around 8 a.m. Saturday.
Even with the fog, many flocked to Manhattan Beach early Saturday morning, taking advantage of the cooler conditions before large crowds began to flock to the sand later in the day.

Conditions along the coastal regions were expected to linger in the 80s, which could provide some relief for those trying to beat the heat. Temperatures were expected to hit the 90s in Los Angeles and Orange counties, and local mountains, well into the 100s in the Inland Empire, Valleys and High Desert communities Sunday
An excessive heat warning was in place for the Los Angeles County Mountains excluding the Santa Monica Range, Santa Barbara County and Ventura County mountains and the Antelope Valley. That warning was set to expire Tuesday night.

- Drink plenty of water or other non-alcoholic or decaffeinated fluids

The heat wave was expected to put extra strain on the power grid as people crank up their air conditioning. People were asked to try and save electricity to avoid any outages.

- Set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher
- Keep your refrigerator full and unplug a second fridge if you have one
- Avoid using appliances during peak hours in the late afternoon and evening
- Turn off your computer monitors when you're away from your desk, either at work or in the home office
- Switch off the coffee maker at 10 a.m. You can reheat individual mugs in the microwave
People are reminded to stay hydrated, stay in the shade and keep an eye on the elderly and pets.
