Diane Kruger, star of films such as "Inglorious Basterds" talks about her and boyfriend Joshua Jackson's skinny-dipping activities, the advantages of therapy, her troubled relationship with her father and her work as a Chanel model in an interview withf Marie Claire UK.
The 36-year-old blonde actress, who appears in the new FX show "The Bridge" (premieres on July 10), graces the cover of the magazine's August 2013 issue. In May, Kruger said in an on-camera interview with E! News that she and Jackson go skinny-dipping in their pool -- to the visible dismay of Jackson.
"We live at the top of a mountain, basically, and there's nobody around. Nobody," she said. "Look, it gets so hot in the summer. It's like 80 degrees at night and you're in the middle of nature. Wouldn't you?"
Kruger and Jackson, the 35-year-old alum of shows "Dawson's Creek" and "Fringe," have been together for more than six years -- since late 2006 -- and live together in Los Angeles.
"I'm grateful that I met a person who feels the same, not just about me, but also about our relationship," she told Marie Claire UK. "But therapy helps, too. It's funny -- in Paris, people don't talk about it. My friends ask, 'What's wrong with you?' But here, everyone talks about it and I really like that about America. Therapy's not about getting help; it's facilitating yourself to deal better with life in general."
Kruger, a former Elite model, moved to Southern California four years ago. She grew up in a small town in Germany. She told Marie Claire UK that when she was young, her mother left her father, who was an alcoholic, taking her and her younger brother with her. She said she has not seen him since she was 16.
"Oh, I'm sure I punished many boys for my lack of a father figure," Kruger said. "And I'm sure I dated many men who were much older than the men I should have been dating. But at the end of the day, I'm not bitter. I love men. I want a family for myself. I'm not angry with him anymore."
Before she met Jackson, she was married for more than five years to actor and director Guillaume Canet. He went on to date Marion Cotillard and they had a son together in 2011.
Diane Kruger face of Chanel
Kruger continues to model occasionally as a celebrity spokesmodel. She wears a sweater and bares her shoulder in a new ad for Chanel skincare products (see photo on Cosmopolitan UK). Kruger has helped advertise Chanel before -- she was the face of the company's 1996 Allure fragrance campaign and also appeared in ads for Chanel's Paris-Biarritz crocodile handbag in 2007.
"I started modeling for them when I was 15," Kruger told Marie Claire UK. "I know everyone there on a first-name basis."
She joins the likes of Nicole Kidman, Blake Lively and Brad Pitt, who became the first male Chanel spokemodel in 2012 (check out his ads + video).
