Amanda Bynes wore a long, bright blue wig, black tank top and sweatpants as she appeared in court in New York on Tuesday, July 9, to face allegations stemming from an arrest over a reported bong-throwing incident.
The 27-year-old former child star, who has over the past year become a Twitter celebrity, was arrested in May at her apartment. Police say an employee told them she lit a joint in the lobby and when an officer went up to her unit, she threw a bong out of the window. No remnants of a marijuana smoking device was found on the ground below. She was detained on suspicion of criminal pot possession, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence.
In a short morning hearing over the matter on Tuesday, Bynes did not speak, the Associated Press reported. She is due back in court on Sept. 26. The actress had after her arrest tweeted: "I only smoke tobacco I don't drink or do drugs. I've never had a bong in my life! I need to get another nose job after seeing my mugshot! :D"
Bynes and her lawyer also remained silent outside of the courthouse, where dozens of photographers were stationed to snap shots of the actress, who has acquired more than 2.7 million Twitter followers over the past year due to her frequent tweets about her plastic surgery desires and celebrities she has deemed "ugly" (see list -- it includes President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama).
Bynes, who has been sporting wigs in public since she shaved her head due to what she called "hair damage" from a salon earlier this year, posted several tweets in the early hours before her hearing on Tuesday.
"My Nose Is Broken I'm Bruised I Can't Wait For My Next Surgery," she said. "My Broken Nose Is Making The Bone Under My Eyes Protrude So I Won't Stop Getting Surgery Until That Bone Is Shaved Off. My Surgeon Broke My Nose During My Surgery But Hasn't Finished My Nose! It's Still Broken And I Can't Breathe!"
"What I Put On Twitter Is Not Wrong," she added. "I ignore you if I want nothing from you. I Hate Taking Pictures With A Broken Nose."
Bynes also has a pending 2012 DUI case in Los Angeles, where she lived before she relocated to New York more than half a year ago. Later that year, she was also arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license. She pleaded no contest and was put on probation for three years.
