Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving the ABC daytime panel series "The View" after almost 10 years and is set to move to the Fox News Channel, where she will work as a co-host on the morning show "Fox & Friends."
The 36-year-old TV star's last day on "The View" will be on Wednesday, July 10, an ABC Network rep said in a statement to OTRC.com on Tuesday.
"For a decade, Elisabeth Hasselbeck has brought her passion and strong beliefs to 'The View,'" ABC said in a statement. "We watched her journey from newlywed to motherhood, an Emmy Award-winning talk show host, author, entrepreneur and activist. She stood behind her political views even if they were not the most popular opinions at the table never shying away from voicing a difficult question. We thank Elisabeth and wish her luck as she begins this new chapter of her career."
Hasselbeck, largely seen as the conservative voice among her fellow co-hosts of "The View," was earlier this year rumored to be leaving the series. Colleague Barbara Walters had said in March there were no such plans.
"I have been a long-time fan of 'Fox & Friends' and am excited to be joining their team in September as it is an honor to call the FOX News Channel my new television home," Hasselbeck said in a statement released by Fox News.
"Elisabeth's warm and engaging personality made her a star on 'The View,'" FOX News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes added. "She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise."
Elizabeth Hasselbeck: From "Survivor" contestant to "The View"
Hasselbeck joined "The View" in November 2003, two years after she competed on the second season of the CBS reality series "Survivor." She placed fourth on the show, which was set in the Australian Outback.
"When Elisabeth survived 'Survivor,' we wanted to make sure she would stay afloat," Walters said in a statement provided by ABC. "We have had 10 wonderful years with her and she will now be swimming in new waters. We will miss her and wish her everything good."
Walters, who co-created "The View" and serves as an executive producer, is herself set to leave the show -- she announced in May that she plans to retire from television in 2014.
