Hawthorne dog shooting: City Council meeting canceled

HAWTHORNE, Calif.

The shooting of the dog by a police officer has sparked protests and unwanted international attention. A video of the shooting has gained nearly four million views on YouTube.

On Sunday, people gathered outside the Hawthorne Police Department outraged over the death of Max, a 2-year-old rottweiler.

Max was shot and killed by a police officer as his owner, Leon Rosby, was taken into custody for allegedly obstructing a robbery investigation. The dog jumped out of a car and approached the officers. That's when one of the officers opened fire.

The shooting was expected to be a hot topic at the Hawthorne City Council meeting Tuesday.

However, the city's website crashed, preventing the agenda from being posted ahead of time. The city then canceled the meeting.
