The trailer for Lindsay Lohan's newest project, the erotic thriller "The Canyons," has been released.
The 27-year-old actress plays Tara, described as an "aspiring actress/model-turned-plaything." Adult movie actor James Deen plays her boyfriend Christian, a Los Angeles "trust-fund kid" with "casual ties to moviemaking." When he discovers she's been cheating on him with the lead actor of his film, played by Nolan Gerard Funk, their relationship takes a dangerous turn.
The director is Paul Schrader, writer of "Taxi Driver," who also wrote and directed "American Gigolo." Bret Easton Ellis, author of "American Psycho" and "Less Than Zero," wrote the script for "The Canyons."
This marks the first major big-screen movie role for Lohan since "I Know Who Killed Me," a movie that flopped at the box office after it was released in 2007. She has since been bogged down by a slew of legal problems, several arrests and stints in jail and rehab.
She is currently in a treatment center, where she is serving a 90-day sentence for a 2012 car crash. "The Canyons" is set for release on Aug. 2, a day before she is allowed to leave the rehab facility. The movie will be screened at select theaters and distributed on cable VOD and digital outlets.
