Jenny McCarthy is set to join the ABC show "The View,"Barbara Walters announced on Monday, July 15, days after Elisabeth Hasselbeck left the series to join Fox News.
McCarthy, 40, was reported to have been in talks for the job. She is best known for her role as co-host of MTV's "Singled Out" in the 1990s and has also worked as an actress and Playboy model. Earlier this year, she hosted her own late-night talk show on VH1.
.She has appeared on "The View" 17 times and served as a guest co-host during eight of them. She will join the show as a cast member in September.
"We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on 'The View' starting in September," Walters, who serves as the main co-host and executive producer, said in a statement to OTRC.com.
"Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor," she added. "She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for 'The View.'"
In addition to Walters, McCarthy will join co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd. Longtime co-host Joy Behar has announced she will not be back next season.
"I'm beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table," McCarthy said, according to ABC News. "I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off."
Also in September, Hasselbeck, who was seen as the conservative voice of "The View," will make her debut on Fox News' morning show "Fox & Friends" in September.
