Jane Lynch became choked up when asked about her late "Glee" co-star Cory Monteith during her appearance on "The Tonight Show" on Wednesday, July 17.
The 31-year-old actor was found dead in a hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver on July 13. The British Columbia Coroner's Service reported on July 16 that the actor died "of a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol."
"Cory's one of the biggest hearts, was a real bright light and he was one of those guys that, you know, he knew he was breathing rarefied air," Lynch told Leno. "The gifts that this show, this wonderful show gave us."
Video of Lynch's appearance on the show can be seen below.
"He was one of those guys who was -- he was always aware, you know, that it was a gift and he was quite generous and one of those adventurous types of people," she added. "You know I always admired how he would get up and, you know, he'd fly to Mexico and he'd throw parties for his friends and I don't think he left one day unlived."
"He was a really bright light in our family and we've lost a really great guy," she said.
When asked by Leno how she would hope Monteith would be remembered, Lynch replied, "He once flew across the country on his own nickel to meet with a sick kid who his last wish was to meet him. That's the kind of guy he was. He was just a real giver."
Monteith, who played Finn on the Fox show "Glee," was mourned by co-stars, including his real-life girlfriend, Lea Michele. Check out their reactions as well as videos of five of our favorite Cory Monteith red carpet moments.
