Kern County brush fire: Evacuations lifted

LEBEC, KERN COUNTY

The fire started near the southbound 5 Freeway and Fort Tejon. The blaze has charred about 720 acres and was 85 percent contained.

Nearly two dozen homes in the Oaks Knolls area were evacuated, but officials said evacuations have been lifted and all roads have been reopened as of 6 p.m. Saturday.

Officials said over 500 firefighters made great head way in building a line around the so-called Rancho Fire Friday. Crews will continue to improve, contain and patrol the perimeter of the fire, authorities said.

Crews from Kern County, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire were fighting the flames.

No structures have been damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
