World Series of Beach Volleyball begins in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif.

The World Series of Beach Volleyball features the first FIVB-sanctioned Grand Slam tournament in the U.S. since 2003, and will include the inaugural World Series Cup featuring the top U.S. men's and women's teams competing against the world.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings has withdrawn from the Grand Slam because of an abdominal strain, but will still compete in the World Series Cup with new partner Whitney Plavlik.

Walsh Jennings is resuming her career after having her third child this spring. She and Plavlik will play their first match next Saturday.

The public can watch the event for free. There will be a variety of vendors and live music.
