OTRC: Prince William and Kate Middleton leave hospital with son

Prince William and his wife, Kate, emerged from the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital with their newborn baby boy on Tuesday, July 23.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to her son on Monday at 4:24 p.m. GMT. The baby weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces.

The new parents briefly spoke to reporters outside of the hospital. William joked his son was "quite heavy" and that "he's got her [Kate's] looks, thankfully." He also revealed that the two have not yet decided on a name.

When asked about the baby's hair, William said, "He's got way more than me, thank God."

The couple and their newborn son were previously visited at the hospital by Prince Charles, his wife Camilla, and Michael and Carole Middleton - Kate's parents.

Kensington Palace said in a statement yesterday that William and Kate will take their son to Kensington Palace from the hospital.

According to The Associated Press, Charles called the baby "marvelous."

Carole Middleton described the infant as "absolutely beautiful," according to the wire service.

William thanked the staff at St. Mary's Hospital in a statement and added, "We know it has been a very busy period for the hospital and we would like to thank everyone - staff, patients and visitors - for their understanding during this time.

Regarding the birth of his son, William said simply in a statement yesterday, "We could not be happier."

Kate, formerly known as Kate Middleton, went into labor on July 22. The baby was born in the private Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital. It is the same hospital where William was born in 1982. Prince Harry was born at the hospital as well.

Kate and William married in a televised ceremony in April 2011. Her pregnancy was announced on Monday, December 3, by St James's Palace, who added that the duchess was admitted that afternoon to a London hospital to treat Hyperemesis Gravidarum.
