OTRC: Josh Groban talks beating Justin Bieber on chart, acting vs. singing

Josh Groban talks to OTRC.com in July 2013.

Get ready for a giant dose of Josh Groban this fall -- he's going on tour and will also be hitting your TV screens, guest-starring on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."

The 32-year-old crooner recently chatted with OTRC.com about the difference between acting and singing as well as another major milestone in his career -- securing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 Albums chart in February with his sixth major studio record, "All That Echoes." This is the third time he had topped the chart and he also knocked Justin Bieber's "Believe: Acoustic" to the No. 6 spot.

"He'll be alright," Groban told OTRC.com. "I have a feeling. I think he'll be just fine. I too have a monkey and he is my best friend." (NOTE: He is referring to Bieber's former pet monkey, which the pop star abandoned in Germany earlier this year.)

"It was my 6th album so in this business, especially with the kind of music I make, which is, I think, sometimes hard to define and it's not necessarily a smash radio thing," Groban continued. "You never know when you release an album, if it's a little bit left-of-center from what's mainstream, whether people are going to react to it or whether your fans are going to react to it."

"I've been doing this for 10 or 11 years now, which in this business is like, ancient," he said. "To have a No. 1 record was thrilling and I'm really happy that people have taken to it."

Groban plans to start a tour in October (check out his website for tour dates). In September, he will guest star on season 9 of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," which moves from FX to sister cable channel FXX.

When asked if his acting influences his singing, or vice-versa, Groban told OTRC.com: "It's telling a story. When I'm singing and when I'm writing songs, I mean, it's obviously coming from you. When you have a script and you've got great writing, it's the same thing as when you have a great song. You try to dive into the character and you try to do what the words dictate."
