Church usher arraigned for sexually assaulting boys

SUN VALLEY, LOS ANGELES

Police said the suspect used his position as an usher to meet and befriend his victims.

Marcelo Lozano, 34, was a member of the Spanish congregation of Sun Valley Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was arrested Monday, accused of sexually abusing four boys ranging in age from 8 to 15 years old.

The alleged crimes occurred between January 2006 and June 2013. Authorities say the abuse did not occur at the church.

Lozano faces nine felony counts. He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon. He pleaded not guilty. He's due back in court on August 12. Lozano was being held on $1.8 million bond.

Detectives said it was a church member who came forward and firs alerted authorities.

The investigation is ongoing.
