Amanda Bynes' mother has been granted a temporary conservatorship over the troubled "Hairspray" actress, who was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold and taken to a hospital last month after she allegedly started a fire in a person's driveway in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, California.
A judge issued the ruling at a hearing on Friday, Aug. 11, according to legal documents obtained by OTRC.com. Bynes' mother, Lynn now has control over the 27-year-old actress' finances as well as her medical treatments -- if she is released from the facility. Lynn and Bynes' father, Richard, attended the hearing but the actress did not, because she is still under the 5150 hold.
Both of Bynes' parents had claimed in legal documents that the actress "talks incessantly about cosmetic surgeries" and that Bynes "has verbally assaulted several people, including family members, through her Twitter account," according to People magazine.
The case brings to mind Britney Spears' 2007 meltdown. The singer has been under the conservatorship of her father, James Spears, since February 2008.
Bynes, who has been dealing with several other unrelated arrests in California and New York -- including an alleged bong-throwing incident -- has in the past year become somewhat of a Twitter celebrity, gaining attention for her frequent tweets and public insults of stars, who she dubs "ugly."
