McClure Tunnel at Pacific Coast Highway to close for repaving

LOS ANGELES

The road toward the beach is scheduled to be closed Sunday and Monday nights, starting at 11 p.m. It will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

The road from Malibu toward Los Angeles will close Tuesday and Wednesday at 11 p.m., and is set to reopen at 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Caltrans says southbound PCH traffic will be diverted to the Ocean Boulevard off-ramp those two nights.

Westbound freeway traffic will be diverted to Fifth Street, to go through downtown Santa Monica to the California Incline or the PCH onramp from Ocean Boulevard near the pier.

The closures are all part of a repaving project. Pavement at the tunnel has been shifting and sinking in some locations for several years. It was built in 1935.
