James DiMaggio tortured victims before killing them - documents

LOS ANGELES

The documents contain details about the search for DiMaggio and about his alleged crimes in San Diego County that started the Amber Alert in the first place.

Police say Christina and Ethan Anderson, Hannah Anderson's mother and brother, were both murdered by DiMaggio. DiMaggio also shot and killed the family dog. Authorities say he then set their bodies on fire inside his Boulevard home.

Christina Anderson's body was found inside the garage.

DiMaggio allegedly tortured his victims. The documents say that "DiMaggio tortured and killed his best friend's wife and 8-year-old son. DiMaggio also shot and killed the family dog."

Investigators found a "crow bar and what appeared to be blood on the ground next to the head."

As for Hannah Anderson, the documents say she was picked up from cheerleading practice around 4 p.m. on Aug. 4, the day her family members were killed. It's not clear if DiMaggio was the one who picked her up, but both their phones were turned off right around 4 p.m.

According to the warrant, DiMaggio and Hannah Anderson called each other approximately 13 times before their phones were turned off, but it was unclear what time period these 13 calls took place. And a friend told investigators that DiMaggio took Hannah Anderson on multiple day trips, the most recent one being to Malibu and Hollywood, the warrant states.

DiMaggio was eventually shot by FBI agents in the Idaho wilderness, with Hannah Anderson looking on. On Tuesday night, Hannah Anderson took to social media to tell her story, and she says she is glad DiMaggio is dead.

Investigators said Hannah Anderson didn't find out about the death of her mother and brother until after she was rescued.
