Authorities discovered the ICE agent's sedan on the 101 Freeway at Silver Lake Boulevard around 6:30 p.m., but there was no sign of the officer.
Police shut down one lane of the freeway for several hours as they searched the side of the road for clues.
The LAPD later made physical contact with the agent. The LAPD said the agent is safe. ICE officials said the agent was picked up by a coworker early Wednesday morning after having car trouble.
