Motorcycle chase suspect dies from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

WINNETKA, LOS ANGELES

The drama began around 7:30 p.m. in front of an apartment complex at Roscoe Boulevard and Mason Avenue in Winnetka.

The suspect ditched his motorcycle and ran into an apartment of a friend. Police launched a massive manhunt for the suspect, who investigators say was a parolee wanted on a felony warrant for gun possession.

The large police presence and potential danger had the entire neighborhood on edge. After more than 3 1/2 hours of trying to get the suspect to give himself up, police entered the apartment, only to discover the suspect had taken his own life.

"The officers that made entry heard a gunshot in the back of the apartment. As they went to the back of the apartment, they saw him lying in the bathroom next to a gun, and he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound," said LAPD Capt. Joel Justice.

Police have not yet identified the suspect. They will only say he was a man in his 20s.
