The smash best known for its controversial video which features nude models has spent ten weeks at No. 1, sold 4.6 million tracks and inspired a lawsuit.
Attorneys for Thicke and the song's collaborators, Pharrell Williams and T.I. filed a lawsuit in a Los Angeles courtroom Thursday against Marvin Gaye's family and Bridgeport Music.
In the lawsuit, the trio asks a judge to rule that their song does not copy tunes composed by Marvin Gaye and George Clinton.
Representatives of the owners of copyrights to Gaye's song "Got To Give It Up" and Clinton's song "Sexy Ways" have allegedly warned the artists that they would be pursuing a lawsuit over the songs' alleged similarities.
"Being reminiscent of a 'sound' is not copyright infringement," the lawsuit reads. "The intent in producing 'Blurred Lines' was to evoke an era."
