The first official photos of Prince George with parents Prince William and Kate Middleton were released by Kensington Palace today.
The royal baby, along with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, can be seen in the photo above in the sunny garden of the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, as Prince George rests in his mother's arms as his parents smile adoringly at the camera. The photograph was taken by Mr. Michael Middleton, Kate's father, in early August.
The photo takes a break from traditional formal photo debuts of royal children, as the couple appears more casual with Kate sporting a maroon dress and Prince William in a blue button-up shirt. Prince William's own first royal portrait was photographed by famed photographer Mario Testino, a favorite of his late mother Princess Diana.
A source from the Palace tells PEOPLE that William and Kate decided on having Kate's father take the couple's first official photo with Prince George, considering it the "best way to capture the couple in a relaxed manner."
"He's a little bit of a rascal, I'll put it that way," William told CNN. "He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure, but he's doing very well at the moment. He's growing quite quickly actually. But he's a little fighter. He wriggles around quite a lot and he doesn't want to go to sleep that much."
