Marg Helgenberger is returning to "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" ... as a guest star.
The actress, who left the CBS crime series in 2012 after 12 seasons, will reprise her role as Catherine Willows on the 300th episode, which is set to air on Oct. 23, the network announced on Tuesday. Also that day, Helgenberger posted a photo of herself with her former cast members on Twitter (see above).
"Very excited to see my pals @CSI_CBS for the 300th! @davidberman88 @ElisabethHarnoi @CSIWritersRoom," she tweeted.
On the 300th episode, her character will be called to help solve a cold case that her former team had tried to crack for 14 years. It is a homicide that took place in the "home of a reclusive former casino mogul who was a suspect in a similar crime in 2000," CBS said.
Helgenberger had said on Jan. 23, 2012, two days before her final "CSI" episode aired, that she was open to the idea of returning to the show as a guest star. She made her comments on the day she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (watch videos).
"CSI" returns for its 14th season on Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. ET.
