Once again, Katy Perry is setting a new chart record for her music.
The singer's latest single "Roar," which is off her upcoming album "PRISIM," set the record for the biggest digital song sales week of 2013 in its first week of release. The song sold 557,024 downloads. The song's sales also mark the biggest digital song sales week of Perry's career as well as her biggest digital song debut.
"Roar" is currently No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" is still No. 1, marking 11 weeks in the top spot, while Lady Gaga's "Applause" debuted at No. 6 on this week's chart.
It was also recently announced that Perry has teamed up with Pepsi and MTV for a tweet-to-unlock voting campaign for fans to decide which one of two new songs from "PRISIM" will be released early on iTunes.
Fans who use the Twitter hashtag #KATYNOW will help unlock song titles and lyrics of the new songs at pepsi.mtv.com. So far, fans have reached a certain number of tweets with the hashtag and have unlocked the titles of the songs, which are "Dark Horse" and "Walking on Air."
Once all the clues have been unlocked, preview audio clips of the two songs will be revealed at pepsi.mtv.com. Throughout the MTV Video Music Awards telecast on Sunday, Aug. 25, fans can sample the songs and vote on which of the two songs will be released early by using one of two unique hashtags, which will be revealed at a later date, in their Tweets to vote for the song they like.
The winning song will be revealed on MTV live, just before Perry's performance at the VMAs. The song will be released on Sept. 17 via iTunes album pre-order.
"PRISIM" is set to be released on Oct. 22. Perry released a lyric video for "Roar" earlier this month.
The MTV VMAs air on Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Other performers include Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Justin Timberlake. Check out a full list of performers and presenters for this year's VMA here. See the full list of nominees here.
