Rapper Kanye West was hit with a lawsuit on Wednesday, Aug. 21, from a photographer who claims the rapper attacked him at Los Angeles International Airport in July.
Daniel Ramos, who was a member of the paparazzi that staked out the rapper at the airport on July 19, and his attorney, Gloria Allred, claim assault, battery, negligence and violation of Ramos' civil rights in the suit. Allred is suing West on Ramos' behalf.
According to The Associated Press, Ramos claims his right hip was injured when West punched him in an unprovoked attack. Allred said Ramos was injured so badly that paramedics had to take him to the emergency room.
"I told him twice, 'I don't want to fight you,'" Ramos said during a press conference with Allred on Wednesday. "However, he attacked me anyway."
"I was in terrible pain from the attack and I am still in pain," Ramos added.
A few celebrities, including Cher, tweeted out support to West for fighting back at the paparazzi.
"DEAR KANYE,THANK U,4 TRASHING THOSE LOATHSOME PARASITES,WHO STEAL OUR MOST PRECIOUS GIFTS,'TIME & PRIVACY'WE CAN NEVER GET THOSE BACK," Cher tweeted on July 21.
However, Allred defended photographers like Ramos saying, "These are just working men and women trying to do their job...Celebrities are not the only ones who have rights. And I think the celebrities should really thank them for the fact that they get coverage."
Allred did not say how much in damages she is seeking from West, but she later added that an apology from West would be a good start.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to file felony assault and attempted robbery charges against West last week, saying Ramos didn't have a significant injury.
