Did Brandy perform for an almost empty stadium in South Africa earlier this month? That's what a few reports and eyewitness tweets claim.
According to the UK newspaper The Guardian, the 34-year-old R&B singer was a surprise guest at the Nelson Mandela Sports & Cultural day music concert in Soweto, South Africa, on Aug. 17. She reportedly performed for approximately 40 people at FNB Stadium, which can seat up to 90,000 people.
"Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off," South African musician Kabomo tweeted on Aug. 17.
When a follower asked Kabomo why people left, he replied, "It was late. People didn't know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience."
A concertgoer highlighted by The Guardian's report seems to corroborate Kabomo's story.
"Well Brandy is going to perform for herself and Mbaks only. Stadium now empty," a Twitter user named Nsindzisa tweeted, referencing Fikile Mbalula, South Africa's Minister of Sport and Recreation.
Brandy didn't tweet about her performance before or after the event. The Guardian also reports the event's televised broadcast ended just before the singer took the stage.
The singer and actress, who currently appears on the BET series "The Game" and recently starred in "Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor," released her sixth studio album called "Two Eleven in October 2012.
In December 2012 it was reported that the singer became engaged to Ryan Press, a music executive.
