Shirley Brewster's relatives told investigators that a stranger talked her into handing over the money. A male suspect came to her home posing as roof repair man, and then convinced her to move money from her savings account into her checking account. Then, he got her to sign it over.
"And they totaled $42,740," said Linda Rakisits, Brewster's daughter. "Somebody came in here and talked her into writing all these checks."
Brewster suffers from dementia and has no recollection of writing the checks.
Police fear more elderly people are being targeted.
