Gobblers Fire: full containment expected Friday

LYTLE CREEK, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

The fire has burned 392 acres and is 83 percent contained as of Sunday morning. Fire officials said there was small growth in the fire Friday due to rolling material that fell downhill and ignited unburned areas.

About 414 fire personnel are battling the flames, and crews are building additional contingency lines to keep more rolling material from feeding the fire.

Fire officials said thunderstorms and lightning sparked the fire, which is burning in steep, rugged terrain at the upper end of Lytle Creek. Closures in the area remain in effect, including Stockton Flats, Coldwater Canyon and Paiute Canyon yellow-post sites, Forest Road 3N06 above the shooting range and Forest Road 3N33 at the 3N31 junction.

Tropical storm Ivo is expected in the area Sunday, bringing the potential for flooding and more lightning-sparked fires.
