Say "bye bye bye" to the idea of watching 'N Sync reunite for longer than 90 seconds, namely, for a tour or album, any time soon.
The 1990s-era boy band reunited on stage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday to perform briefly during a medley sung by former member and pop star Justin Timberlake, who received the honorary Michael Jackson Vanguard Video Award (see a full list of winners). It marked the group's first performance in 11 years.
"It would be lovely to do it, but we've got nothing planned," former member Lance Bass told the Associated Press, noting Timberlake's upcoming solo tour, which begins this fall.
"Who knows what will happen when he's off tour," Bass added. "It's simply not part of the conversation right now. We just focused on that one performance. If we did anything like that, I think we would come up with something real special where we could actually call it 'The Reunion.'"
Rumors about an 'N Sync reunion floated around days before the MTV VMAs. Bass told the Associated Press that he and the other three members who had joined Timberlake wore "big ole hoodies to pretend we were the stagehands," adding: "We would push out the stage and do all the stagehand stuff until we got to the area and hid out beneath a staircase. That was my favorite part."
Members of the Backstreet Boys, once considered by many fans as 'N Sync's main "rival" boy band, are currently on their second reunion tour, following a concert series in 2011 and 2012 with fellow 1990s male pop group New Kids on the Block (NKOTB). "She's just being Miley"
Bass also offered his take on the evening's most controversial and talked-about event -- Miley Cyrus' racy performance with Robin Thicke. He said his young nieces and nephews had watched the ceremony for the first time in order to see him perform with 'N Sync and that he had to "warn them that their little Hannah Montana was going to be naked and humping a finger."
Cyrus, who rose to fame as the star of the Disney Channel show "Hannah Montana," wore a nude-colored bikini and made suggestive moves with a foam hand while "twerking," or dancing while shaking her butt, against Thicke.
"I think it's her thing. I think she shocked a lot of her younger fans, especially the parents, who might not be so happy with her thing, and she's just being Miley," Bass told the Associated Press. "I mean it is a big deal. Unfortunately I think young artists, especially coming from a Disney background, especially want to change that image."
Timberlake was a member of Disney's "All New Mickey Mouse Club" show in the early 1990s before he joined the boy band Bass and 'N Sync, which had a clean, family-friendly image, have taken part in Disney Christmas parades before.
Ratings for the 2013 MTV VMAs drew 10.1 million viewers, marking a 66 percent rise from last year's ceremony.
