Fatal Sherman Oaks hit-run crash: Reward offered for information

SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES

Ernesto Melendez was struck while getting into his car at the valet stop in front of Vibe Café at Ventura Boulevard west of Kester Avenue on Aug. 18.

The 22-year-old Pierce College student was taken to the hospital, where he later died. There's now a $50,000 reward on the table.

"My brother, only 22 years old, lost his life and the person who did this didn't even bother to stop. I just want closure," said the victim's sister, Patricia Lazalde.

Melendez's mother was also killed by a motorist who hit her, but that driver did not leave the scene.

"Seven years ago I lost my mom and the only person I had was my brother," said Lazalde.

Police believe the driver was in a gray newer model Hyundai Tucson.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) LAPD-24-7.
