Action film hero Vin Diesel makes a grand return to the role of "Riddick," which hit theaters on Sept. 6 -- something die-hard fans have been waiting on for a long time.
"Riddick" is the third installment in the "Chronicles of Riddick" series, proceeded by "Pitch Black" in 2000 and "The Chronicles of Riddick" in 2004. Reuniting with writer and director of the original films, David Twohy, Diesel is thrilled to be able to share this new installment with fans after all this time.
"I can't tell you how gratifying," Diesel said to OTRC.com. "It's actually different than, you know, a 'Fast & Furious' premiere or something, because so much was on the line here."
Over the years, the "Riddick" character garnered a major cult following, something that makes returning to the character all the more exciting for Diesel and fans alike.
"I feel like the die-hard "Chronicles of Riddick" fans, the ones that have watched the DVD over and over again, are just going to enjoy the fact that we're back on the boards, are just going to enjoy the fact that they can know that Riddick is continuing and he has survived, I think that's going to be a big deal for people, Diesel said."
Diesel, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (see VIDEO), not only shares the thrill of the film with his fans, but also with his theater arts-instructor father, whom Diesel told OTRC.com praised the film upon screening it.
"He saw the movie last week and he said, 'I don't know if I'm more happy about the film's success or more proud that you made this film against all odds.' And that kind of sums up my feeling, and when you get that kind of validation from your parent, whose acknowledgement has fueled you in your career, it's a very powerful moment."
