"Aladdin" is headed to Broadway.

Disney Theatrical Productions, which produced Broadway hits like "The Lion King," "Mary Poppins" and "Newsies," is preparing a new musical based on the 1992 animated film. The musical will officially open on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, according to Playbill.com.

Alan Menken, who composed the score for the animated movie, will write new songs for the show. Tony Award winner Casy Nicholaw, who previously worked on shows like "The Book of Mormon" and "Monty Python's Spamalot," will direct and choreograph the show.

No casting has been announced. The new musical will first be staged in Toronto starting on Nov. 1 until Jan. 5, before it heads to Broadway.
