Oxnard standoff betwen armed man, police ends peacefully

OXNARD, Calif.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Stellar Drive at about 4 p.m. Monday about a possibly suicidal man. Responding officers located a 40-year-old Oxnard resident, who was armed with a knife. The man told officers he was going to hurt himself.

Police officers tried to negotiate with the man, but he refused. The back-and-forth lasted about 2 1/2 hours, and the Oxnard Police Department's crisis negotiators were called to the scene.

At about 6:45 p.m., the man complied with officers' commands and was taken into custody. Investigators say he was transported to Ventura County Behavioral Health for assessment.
