Katy Perry takes on wild animals and a self-absorbed love interest in her new music video for her hit single "Roar."

Perry, who performed "Roar" for the first time live at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25, tweeted a link to the music video on her official VEVO channel to her more than 42 million Twitter followers on Sept. 5 saying, "It's HERE! Filmed in Junglescope -- my brand new music video #ROARVIDEO." (Watch the video below).

The video finds Perry attempting to survive the jungle following the crash landing of a plane. While her male companion proceeds to take "selfies" of himself on his mobile phone, Perry must navigate spiders, crocodiles and tigers in order to survive the jungle.

The singer, sporting a leopard-print top and grass skirt for much of the video, ultimately becomes one with the jungle, waking up to the sight of elephants and monkeys by the video's end.

In addition to the music video release, "Roar" also became Perry's eighth No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and her 12th song to peak within the top 10 since her debut single "I Kissed A Girl" in 2008.

"Roar" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following its Aug. 11 release behind Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." The song came in ahead of fellow pop diva Lady Gaga's single "Applause," which was released the day after "Roar."

Perry, whose new album "Prism" is scheduled to be released on Oct. 22, amassed five Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles from her 2010 release "Teenage Dream," including "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "E.T." and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)."

The songstress has also released snippets of two new songs to be included on "Prism" as part of a campaign with Pepsi, titled "Dark Horse" and "Walking on Air." Fans picked "Dark Horse" as Perry's next early release and the song will go on sale on Sept. 17. Perry also teamed up with on-again, off-again boyfriend John Mayer for the song "Who You Love" on his current album "Paradise Valley."
