Coldplay premiered their single, "Atlas," from the soundtrack to "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" on Friday, Sept. 6.
The ballad debuted with a lyric video, which can be viewed below. It is the first time Coldplay has ever recorded an original song for a motion picture, according to Lionsgate, the studio behind "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."
"I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film," "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" director Francis Lawrence said in a statement when the song was first announced last month. "Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can't wait to share this music with audiences around the world."
"Atlas" is the first new song from the band since they released their last full-length album "Mylo Xyloto" in October 2011. The song is also available for purchase on iTunes.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is set to hit theaters on Nov. 22. In the film, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) attempt to adjust to life after winning the Hunger Games in the first movie. Their return to normal life is cut short when their names are once again called for the 75th annual Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell. Once there, they must fight for their lives and face off against other previous Hunger Games champions amidst a politically hostile time in the country, Panem.
