FDA spokeswoman Tamara Ward told The Times-News that some people described nausea and cramps.
No link has been confirmed between the illnesses and Chobani, but Ward said the FDA is working with the company to hasten its voluntary recall.
Last week, Chobani recalled some kinds of yogurt reported to have been contaminated by a mold associated with dairy products. This recall came about a week after the company first started asking retailers to pull the products from shelves, saying some cups were "swelling and bloating."
Last Thursday, the company said 95 percent of the tainted product had been destroyed.
The affected yogurt cups are marked with the code 16-012 and expiration dates Sept. 11 to Oct. 7.
The company posted an apology from Chobani CEO Hamid Ulukaya on its Facebook on Wednesday. In the post, Ulukaya offered his "heartfelt apologies" for the recall. He pointed affected customers to Chobani's Customer Loyalty Team.
