OTRC: Kanye West charged with battery over paparazzo scuffle

Kanye West has been charged with criminal battery and attempted grand theft by the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office following a scuffle with a member of the paparazzi.

The incident occurred on July 19 at Los Angeles International Airport. Celebrity photographer Daniel Ramos had claimed West attacked him and later filed a lawsuit against the hip hop star. West, who often followed by the paparazzi, has not commented.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office said in a statement to OTRC.com on Friday, Sept. 13, that West faces two criminal charges of battery and attempted grand theft. If convicted, he could be sent to jail for a year -- six months per count. He is due in court on Oct. 10.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office had initially declined to file felony assault and attempted robbery charges against West, saying Ramos' did not suffer a significant injury.

Ramos, represented by famed attorney, Gloria Allred, is claiming assault, battery, negligence and violation of civil rights. He claims he injured his right hip in the scuffle and that West punched him n an unprovoked attack. Allred said Ramos was injured so badly that he had to be hospitalized.
