NBC has released the official poster for its televised musical special "The Sound of Music," which shows Carrie Underwood as Maria, complete with a short, blonde braided hairstyle and a traditional Austrian dress similar to the one Julie Andrews wore in a 1968 film.
The movie, one of America's favorites, is based on a 1959 Broadway musical and contains memorable songs such as "Do-Re-Mi," "Eidelweiss" and "My Favorite Things.".
The network also announced the names of more cast members -- Tony-winning Broadway performers Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle will join Underwood and Stephen Moyer, whose role as Maria's love interest, Captain Von Trapp, was announced in August.
Borle, who won a Tony for "Peter and the Starcatcher" and also starred in the Broadway musical "Legally Blonde" and on the NBC series "Smash," will play Max Dettweiller, a friend of Von Trapp and his children -- who sing in public -- and a music producer.
Audra McDonald, who won five Tonys and has starred in Broadway musicals such as "Carousel" and "Ragtime," will play Mother Abbess, the head of Nonnberg Abbey, where Maria used to live as a nun.
Benati, who won a Tony for her performance in "Gypsy," will play Elsa Schrader, the socialite fiancee of Von Trapp.
NBC's three-hour "Sound of Music" special is will air live on Dec. 5.
