Occidental College says sexual assault complaint resolved

EAGLE ROCK, LOS ANGELES

Earlier this year, about 50 current and former female students filed complaints against the U.S. Department of Education.

The women claimed the small liberal arts college showed indifference to the allegations and discouraged victims from reporting the incidents. They also said the school dragged out investigations and gave wrongdoers only slap-on-the-wrist punishments.

Attorney Gloria Allred, who represented about a dozen of those students, confirmed that the case has been resolved, but did not specify if the case was settled or withdrawn.

The complaints involved incidents from 2009 to 2013.

Occidental said in a statement that among other steps since the complaint was filed, it has adopted a new sexual misconduct policy, hired a victims' advocate and added a 24-hour phone hotline.
