Mazda recalls 161K cars to fix door latches

DETROIT

According to the automaker, the door latch mounting screws can loosen and stop doors from latching. This could cause the doors to open.

Mazda says a door ajar light will warn drivers if the latches come loose.

The recall includes Mazda 6 cars from 2009 through 2013 model years.

The latching problem was tracked to improper tightening at the factory or uneven door surfaces.

Owners will soon be notified as the recall is scheduled to start Oct. 18. Automobile dealers will put on a thread-locking adhesive and tighten the screws.

Any owners with questions regarding the recall were urged to contact Mazda at (800) 222-5500.
