OTRC: Amanda Bynes now in facility, 'making great strides towards recovery'

Amanda Bynes appears before a New York judge on Friday, May 24, 2013. She was arrested in Manhattan. Police said the actress threw a bong out of a window.

Amanda Bynes has been moved from a Los Angeles medical center, where she had undergone psychiatric treatment, to a "private facility" outside the city and is "making great strides towards recovery," her parents say.

The news was announced on Monday, Sept. 30 via a statement obtained by OTRC.com more than two months after she was hospitalized on a 5150 hold after allegedly setting fire in a neighbor's driveway. The 27-year-old former Nickelodeon star, known for roles in films such as "Hairspray" and "Easy A," was put under the conservatorship of her mother after the fire incident, which took place in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, California.

"Currently, upon recommendation by the skilled healthcare professionals at UCLA Medical Center, Amanda is receiving specialized treatment in a private facility outside of Los Angeles," Bynes' parents' statement said. "Amanda is making great strides towards recovery."

"The entire Bynes family would like to ask that they be given some measure of privacy so they can focus on Amanda's health and well-being," they said. "The Bynes family would also like to thank all of Amanda's supporters and well-wishers for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

They did not specify what kind of treatment the actress is currently receiving or when she was transferred to the facility. Last week, an attorney for Bynes told a Los Angeles court that the actress was unable to stand trial over a separate incident -- a 2012 drunk driving case -- due to doubts about her mental competence. In addition to the suspected DUI incident, Bynes displayed erratic behavior over the past year. She had her head shaved, wore colorful wigs, fired off a slew of nasty tweets bashing celebrities she deemed "ugly" and got arrested for marijuana possession in New York. She was also accused of throwing a bong out of her apartment window-- which she denied.
