Anastacia, singer of pop hits such as "I'm Outta Love" and "Left Outside Alone," has revealed that she has undergone a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year.
The Chicago-born 45-year-old singer, who is especially popular in Europe, had canceled a tour due to her ailment and said she planned to continue working on a new album. She had battled the disease for the first time in 2003.
"In light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month l wanted to take the opportunity to support a cause particularly close to my heart," the Chicago-born 45-year-old singer said in a statement posted by BBC News on Oct. 1. "l was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year and am currently in the final stages of recovery after undergoing a double mastectomy."
"It has been an intense journey but l am feeling great and ready to start the next chapter," she said. "Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives all who are facing this disease a chance to gain strength and support from each other. Early detection has saved my life twice. I will continue to battle and lend my voice in any way I can."
In July, Anastacia said on her Facebook page that it "seems l'm Cancer Free Forever" and in August, she shared a video message, thanking fans for their support.
"It's just been wonderful. It's been wonderful to rely on that when I'm so down," she said. "I really, really, thank you so much for that because you don't even know, you guys can't even know how that has pulled me through some crazy little times recently, so thank you guys."
"I'll see you really soon and I hope this cheers up a lot of you that wanted to hear me, actually see me and hear me talk because I don't think you guys thought I did that anymore at all. Maybe they removed my mouth," she joked. "No they didn't! Still have it!"
