Camp Pendleton fire grows to 2500 acres

CAMP PENDLETON NORTH, Calif.

The fire had burned 2,500 acres and was 20 percent contained Sunday night.

The fire forced the evacuation of 230 residents from the Lake O'Neill area. Residents were allowed back to their homes at 5 p.m.

Residents were able to return via Santa Margarita Road leading to Sequoia and Pusan roads.

Officials say four buildings suffered minor damage.

The Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton was not threatened by the fire, but the power did go out, forcing 30 patients to be moved to other hospitals. Service was restored to the hospital by Sunday morning.

Full containment was expected by Tuesday, according to Camp Pendleton officials.
