The season 4 of "The Walking Dead" is off to a great start -- Sunday's premiere earned the highest ratings the popular AMC show has ever received.
The episode, which saw the survivors struggling to maintain some sense of community and normalcy in their prison home amid constant walker threats, was watched by 16.1 million people, including 10.4 million adults between ages 18 and 49. The show earned an 8.2 rating.
Ratings for the season 4 premiere surpassed the previous highest-rated "Walking Dead" episode, which was the season 3 finale. That show drew 12.4 million viewers, including 8.1 million adults between ages 18 and 49.
The season 4 premiere drew more than 41 percent more viewers in the key 18-49 demographic than the first episode of season 3 -- which was watched by 10.8 people overall and earned a 5.8 rating.
