3 dry ice bombs found at LAX; 1 exploded

LOS ANGELES

Authorities responded to a report of a suspicious item around 8:20 p.m. in a restricted area not accessible to the general public near the gate area of the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

The LAPD Bomb Squad was called to the scene. Police said a total of three bottles with dry ice was found. One of the bottles exploded near a ramp.

No injuries were reported. The scene was cleared by 9:45 p.m. and there was minimal impact to airport operations.

This comes a day after dry ice in a bottle exploded in a restroom at LAX Sunday evening, causing some departing flights to be halted for a short period of time.

Sunday's incident happened around 7 p.m. in a Terminal 2 employee restroom that is not accessible to passengers, according to LAX police.

No arrests have been made and there were no stated threats associated to the incidents.
